The Debian legacy

Debian's popularity has inspired dozens of variants, including many that circumvent your hard disk and run directly from a combination of CD-ROM and computer memory. Here's a look at some of the celebrities in the Debian family tree. Debian is an open source operating system developed by volunteers and freely available via the Internet. Capable of running on a variety of hardware platforms, Debian is also a great representation of the power of open source software. RFC-2397: The "data" URL scheme

A new URL scheme, "data", is defined. It allows inclusion of small data items as "immediate" data, as if it had been included externally.

Some applications that use URLs also have a need to embed (small) media type data directly inline. This document defines a new URL scheme that would work like 'immediate addressing'. The URLs are of the form:
